Charles M. Rotenberg Tax Specialist

Charles “Chuck” Rotenberg has specialized in income tax, estate planning and tax dispute resolution since 1980.
He advises professionals, business owners and their legal, accounting and financial advisors, drawing on decades of experience in private practice, teaching and government tax work.
Within D&DCPD’s broader workplace protection and advisory model, Chuck strengthens our ability to support clients when workplace, business or personal transitions create tax, estate-planning or financial-structuring considerations.
For our employer and business clients, Chuck can assist with tax-related issues affecting business owners, professionals and privately held organizations.
His experience is particularly valuable where corporate decisions, ownership changes, succession planning, compensation arrangements, business restructuring or other significant transactions may have important tax consequences.
His involvement allows D&DCPD to identify when a workplace or business decision may require specialized tax advice and to connect clients with experienced guidance before decisions are finalized.
This is especially important where employment, corporate, succession or financial considerations intersect and a broader perspective is required.
Chuck’s practice includes advising many professionals and small- to medium-sized businesses on tax and related matters. He is also frequently called upon by lawyers, accountants and financial advisors to assist with tax issues affecting their clients.
Where D&DCPD assists an employee with a termination, transition or other workplace matter, Chuck can help clients understand the tax implications of their broader circumstances and identify planning considerations that may affect how they structure their next steps.
His involvement helps D&DCPD provide clients with a more complete approach when workplace or business decisions extend beyond employment and compliance issues into taxation, estate planning and longer-term financial considerations.
Chuck has taught personal and corporate income tax in the Commerce Program at Carleton University, at the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law and at Queen’s University Faculty of Law. He has also served as an instructor in income tax for the Ontario Bar Admission Course.
In 1991 and 1992, Chuck served as Tax Counsel with the Department of Justice, where he acted in all areas of tax appeals.
He also acted as an advisor to the Tax Avoidance Section and the Corporate Rulings Directorate of Revenue Canada, Taxation, now the Canada Revenue Agency.
He is frequently invited to speak to members of the financial planning and insurance industries and has written extensively on tax-related matters.
Chuck is a member of several tax-related professional organizations, including Advocis and the Canadian Tax Foundation.
He is also a past president of the Ottawa Estate Planning Council and serves on the boards and professional advisory councils of several community organizations.
His experience provides D&DCPD clients with access to senior tax and estate-planning insight when a workplace, business or personal decision has financial consequences that require specialized analysis.
