Dr. Dr YM Markus MD, MPH&TM, FRCPC

Dr. Markis is a board-certified Occupational Medicine Specialist and a Fellow of both the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine.
He brings more than 20 years of experience in clinical leadership, occupational health program development, workplace medicine and complex medicolegal assessment.
Dr. Markis provides specialized occupational medicine expertise when workplace issues involve injury, illness, disability, functional limitations, accommodation or return-to-work considerations.
For our employer clients, he can help us assess the medical dimensions of workplace matters so that employers can make better-informed and defensible decisions. His expertise can support matters involving workplace injuries and illnesses, functional abilities, medical restrictions, accommodation, return-to-work planning, occupational health concerns and complex WSIB or workplace disability issues.
This allows D&DCPD to combine workplace compliance, employee relations and risk-management advice with specialized medical insight when a matter requires both perspectives.
For our employee clients, Dr. Markis can help us better understand the medical issues affecting their ability to work, return to work or obtain appropriate workplace accommodation. His expertise can assist in evaluating functional limitations, workplace restrictions, occupational injuries or illnesses, return-to-work concerns and medically complex workplace disputes.
This gives our clients access to occupational medicine expertise alongside D&DCPD’s workplace protection, compliance and employee-support services.
His involvement allows D&DCPD to provide a more integrated approach to workplace matters where medical, employment, health and safety, disability and accommodation issues intersect.
Throughout his career, Dr. Markis has directed national occupational health services, advised major private and public organizations, and led multidisciplinary clinical operations across sectors including manufacturing, energy, defence, transportation, healthcare and government. He holds unrestricted medical licences in Ontario, Alberta and Quebec, as well as in the State of Texas.
His work includes peer-reviewed publications, technical reports for major organizations, invited scientific presentations and corporate educational lectures, reflecting a career that bridges frontline clinical practice, health systems leadership and education in occupational and environmental medicine.
Dr. Markis is a designated assessor for both the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) and the Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal (WSIAT). In addition to his clinical and consulting work, he serves as Chair of the Examination Committee for Occupational Medicine at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
